Ornithogalum
For the ancient Greeks, a slang term for something beautiful. Ornithos = bird; gala = milk, birds milk. And thats what they are, these milk stars - as they are called in German. Even more meaningful in English: Star of Bethlehem or Sun Star. Some authors suspect that the genus name only refers to the milky white of some flowers - but we prefer to stick with the beautiful.
