Ariocarpus retusus § %

|7-8 cm Ø|One of the largest species of Ariocarpus, which is also extremely variable. This variability has led to numerous unnecessary names without botanical value. Its original range extended from Coahuila and Nuevo León in the north to San Luis Potosí in the south. However, due to agricultural development, much of this range is severely threatened. In the field, frost hardiness down to -10°C (14 °F) is reported. It is essential to keep it very dry when cold weather threatens. It is probably the easiest species of the genus to propagate from seed, but generally needs 6-10 years before it is ready to flower. To prevent the wool of the flowering zone from matting or discolouring, it should preferably be watered from below.
